SISTERS

I've been blessed in my life to have three sisters. In Eli (Alpha Team Six, book 1), Erin and Brandy were sisters that loved and fought, made up and fought again. The bond that made them sisters still remained strong.

 Like Erin and Brandy, the bond between my sisters and myself is unique.

My oldest sister was married and living in New York when I was a child. It has only been recently that we have grown closer. She has an inner light, a voice of ageless wisdom and a sweetness that is unpatrolled.

Ann and Sharon who are seven and five years older than me, now they were, and don't you dare tell them, my idols growing up. They knew everything about everything. They went on dates with boys, went to parties and always wore the coolest clothes, bell bottoms, and tight shirts, so cool.

I love them both so much. They are different in many wonderful ways. The bond that was forged through our younger years and a shared love for our fearless mother, is still strong to this day.

Writing about Brandy and Erin's relationship sprung from my love of Sharon and Ann. Sisters are like a winding road with many turns and forks, but in the end, it will lead each traveler back home. My sisters are my representation of home. So proud of them. My inspiration in this book and in life.

MY INSPIRATION

ELI (Alpha Team Six book 1)

Eli and Erin’s story takes place in the small fictional town of Wayland Georgia. Wayland was inspired by my hometown of Waycross Georgia. I loved growing up there, even though I left at a young age, Waycross is  and will always be special to me. Fond memories of the fruit trucks that came by our house selling fruits and vegetables, note, not ice cream trucks, but fruit trucks. Things I loved most were, gathering pecans from the pecan trees out back, boiled peanuts, bare foot races down long dirt roads. The people of Waycross are hard working down to earth types that exemplify southern charm at it’s best.

In the next two books of the series, Wayland will continue to be the back drop. I hope that you can get a feel of the place in up coming books. The pace of a small town and the interaction of the people is something that appeals to most of us who live busy city lives. I know that we all would love to just kick back enjoy nature and the beauty of Wayland/Waycross.

INTERRACIAL COUPLES 

In 1958, Richard and Mildred Loving were arrested simply because she was a black woman and he was a white man. In that era of our history, laws were in place that made it illegal for interracial couples to be wed. Today we are much more tolerant. Are we, really? People of same sex relationships might disagree on that one. Clearly, we have a lot more work to do with the tolerance of others in our country.

In 1967, The Supreme Court found those laws prohibiting interracial couples from marrying to be unconstitutional. 1967 wasn't so very long ago if you think about it. The percentage of newlywed couples that were different races was 3% in 1967 to 17% in 2015. Every year this statistic is on the increase.

Today, couples that are in interracial relationships base their relationships on who the person is and not what race they happen to be. They don't feel the need to explain or prove themselves to the world at large. Marriage to these couples, like all couples is about acceptance and respecting your partner.
